I took my usual route this morning to bypass the many traffic lights along White Plains Road. I turned on the radio to the voices of Jack and Christine from 106.7 Lite FM. They played a song by P!nk (My daughter corrected me with the spelling and told me that her name was P-exclamation-nk. LOL!). I turned up the volume as the chorus thumped from the speakers of my Nissan Murano. “Pretty pretty please don’t you ever ever feel like you’re less than, less than perfect; pretty pretty please if you ever ever feel like you’re nothing you are perfect to me.”
I neared the intersection where I usually meet up with Mr. T, an elderly gentleman I talk to in the mornings. He used to wait with his dependable dog, Prince, but sadly, Prince died last year. Mr. T suffered from a mild stroke that left his legs a little weak. He now depends on a cane. When I stopped to talk with him, he would walk up to the window of my car so, I nicknamed him, the man in the window.
He would talk on general issues with a lesson to learn at the end. These conversations inspired me to document his stories (with his permission) and share them with you.
I looked around for him, but he was not there, nor was he on the front porch of his house. I hoped that he was okay.
So, since the man in the window was not available to depart his knowledge to us, I felt compelled to give my thoughts instead. My thoughts will be on the song mentioned above.
In our society, we are condition as to what is considered perfect. It can be how we look, the hairstyles we choose to wear, our body type, our sexual orientation, among many others. When we are following what society deems perfect, we are not staying true to ourselves. Being different is what makes us unique.
Choosing not to conform to society’s definition of what we should be, doesn’t make us less than perfect. When we act on our difference, we can generate the force to create change and movement in society. It is okay to be different from what is considered normal. It is okay to be unique.
It can be challenging for us sometimes to be our unique selves because we believe that we are less than perfect. However, once we’ve accepted our true identity, our confidence will encourage us to set our path, our story, and become leaders.
According to the dictionary, perfect means, free from faults or defects. Even though we strive to become, no one on this planet fits that description.
If you are comfortable in the skin you live in, you are perfect to me. If you are confident with who you are, you are perfect for me. You are perfect because your creator created You!
Have a Fantastic day, perfect you!
