Slide Down

Slide for me meant slippery. Slide for me meant fun. Slide for me meant panic. Slide for me meant pain. Today, I experienced another Slide…this.

I accompanied my friend to the health food store, but waited in the car as she went in to get her regular drink. She came back with a brown paperbag.

“I got you something,” she said. “I want you to take it before you go to bed.”

“What is it?” I asked curious to know.

“It is called, Slide,” she said with a smirk. “It is a tonic made with roots. Before you go to bed, chug it….one gulp, she laughed. “… then call me and tell me what you think.”

“Okay,” I responded as I got out of her car. “I will call you.” But there I was documenting the experience.

It had a rich brown color. It smelled like sweet red wine with a high percent of alcohol. So, I did the tongue test. It burned like raw ginger and immediately a cool sensation dispersed around my mouth from what tasted like alcohol. But I remembered her telling me that there was no alcohol in it. It was the “bitterest” thing I had ever tasted😫. My mouth welled with water to douse the taste.

I waited. Should I chug it? I could hear my friend talking in my head…it’s good for you…. it helps to build up your immune system. Then a text came in from her, “Drink it!”

I chuckled,. I can do this! I took up the container and swallowed in one gulp. I was instantly gasping for breaths. I couldn’t breathe for a while, it was hot going down my belly. I heard sounds in my belly that were “groggling” and a heated feeling emitted from within the pit of my belly😲. Everytime I swallowed, I tasted the vile bitter after taste. I washed my mouth and brushed my teeth, but the bitterness lingered. I brushed my tongue as far back as I could tolerate without throwing up, which helped a little. I refused to swallow my mouth’s watering spit because of the bitter taste in my throat.

I will never, I meant NEVER drink that again! Or will I🤔

Let me call her now.

Ok, I said it!
