“Okay! Okay! I will tell you,” Sabrina surrendered her silence to Carlos’s nudge to divulge her thoughts to words. “It happened last Saturday before I left your shop. I called you to tell you that I was leaving to go to lunch with my friend, and when you didn’t answer, I knocked on the door. You still didn’t answer, so I opened the door,” she stopped. “I do not want to continue.” She gazed out the window into the darkness beyond.
“Didn’t you see me working on your car?” Carlos asked as he reached out and turned her face towards his. “You didn’t see me there?”
“No, I did not see you there working on my car,” she responded. “Let me just say you were in the bathroom and what I saw was interesting.”
He started to laugh. Sabrina looked at him with a furrowed brow.
“Why are you laughing?” she asked. “Share the joke!”
“I got you,” he said, laughing.
“You got me? I do not understand,” she questioned.
“I heard you calling me and set it all in motion.”
“You mean you heard me calling and never answered?”
.”Si,” he laughed.
“You mean you went into the bathroom and… “
“Si,” he interjected. “It was just a prank, seriously. I was wondering when you were going to say something.”
“You are disgusting,” she said, hitting him on his arm, but her hand bounced off like a ball. Sabrina started to laugh because she realized that it was a setup. She didn’t see what she thought she saw. Carlos reeled out his fishing rod, and she took a bite from the worm dangling on the line and got hooked.
“That night I saw you, you looked muy hermoso. You looked, how do you say it? Dainty. I saw you shaking when you got out of the car. You being vulnerable allowed me to be your man en la armadura. I became the person to tell you things will be alright. I believe in faith and that nothing is a coincidence. And I think you feel the same way as I do, ” he stopped talking for a while as if thinking while still looking at her.
In that brief moment of reticence, Sabrina felt the urge to reach over and kiss him. Their stares locked, and he reached over and kissed her. Then he kissed her some more, deeper and more passionately. Sabrina’s skin felt like it was on fire. It burned with desire for him. He plunged his tongue into her mouth and grabbed her face with both hands. Sabrina had forgotten the feeling of intimacy a long time ago. Although she was a bit reserved, she let herself let go a little to indulge in his desire.
Then his hand moved to her neck, and a flashback of Trevor’s hand around her neck created a distraction, and she pulled away. She chuckled and wiped the corners of her mouth with her fingers. He reached for her face again, but she averted his hand, and instead, nestled her face by his neck. She inhaled his woodsy cologne mixed with a tinge of sweat. He wrapped his arms around her, and she felt safe, as he pecked tiny kisses on the side of her cheeks. They sat there in silence as their heartbeat settled back into normal rhythm.
“It is getting late. You should get inside,” he finally said. “Let me walk you to your door.”
… to be continued. Ok, I said it!
