He called me honey!

He stood in front of me on the smiley face decal Dunkin placed on the floor in order for us to observe the six feet social distancing rule. He wore a black fitted suite with his black hair sleeked back from a fresh wash…..I presumed.

He stepped to the counter to get his dozen donut and a Box O’Joe…coffee. I stepped in his wake and a whiff of cologne invaded my nostrils. Masculine, Woodsy – Sandalwood.

I watch him intently until my order of a toasted bagel with cream cheese was ready. I walked up beside him, took my bag, and stepped away.

He followed behind me and I veered to the left to get napkins. I delayed longer than needed so that he would go on ahead. When I turned around for the door, he was waiting for me holding the door open.

I smiled broadly under the mask I a wore. “Thank you,” I said. “Have a good day.”

“You too, Honey,” He responded.

Ahh! Honey.
